So, at last, I have made my foray into a new army, the High Elves, and am currently working on helping Blake finish his Daemons before Capital City in a few weeks. Thus, I thought I should share some pictures. My first picture is of my first painted High Elf mini, well not painted. WIP, almost painted. He is mostly done. I have to do some touching up alongside doing his face and the horse's sking and tail, but he is shaping up nicely. Next are three of the five flamers I painted for Blake. They were definitely a fun and interesting experience. Tzeentch stuff stresses me out with all of the shifting colors. Finally, here are the two heralds of tzeentch as they appeared last night. My home internet was down (rout crapped out), so I didn't have any reference pics to help me out, so I didn't want to do the skin or feathers until I could look at some other pics. So, ignore the white patches. Here is the red one nearly done tonight after finally seeing a couple of finished models on the internet (thankfully received through a rapidly shipped shiny new router). Like I said, Tzeentch stresses me out. I hope this guy didn't come out too primary. I wanted the two heralds to almost be polar opposites in regards to color scheme and so far I think they have worked out well. Let me know what you think.

No unfortunately, I am nowhere near that good. The HE banner that comes with the BSB box is molded into that design. I just painted it.

Dude, you should see some of my first minis. They suck. After 5 or 6 years of playing, painting 4 complete armies and reading tons of info on the internet, I have been able to work up to some decent painting. You too can learn the ways of the force my son. If you want sometime, we can sit down and take a look at a mini.....or you could pay me to paint your army like Blake has.

whether that HE banner is molded that way or not, that is gorgeous. Fantastic job.

Looking great. You've really improved. You might give the horse socks and a blaze (I think it's a blaze, coloring on the muzzle.) Nice work on the armor, too. If you do an entire army like that, you'll get really good painting scores. The sorcerer robes look slick, too. Have you played around with glazes yet?

For the robes of both heralds, I used glazes and washes. I initially used the GW washes to add good shadows to the folds and creases. I then used glazes to smooth out the edges of layers. I am almost done with the second herald. I will put up a picture of both hopefully tonight. The idea was to kind of do a photo negative approach to them to make them each distinct since they are the same model and will both be in the army at the same time.
In regards to the High Elf steed, I was thinking about a grey coat with some white dappling on the high quarters.

Dappling would look slick. I'll email you a file that helped me a lot.

Dark Dave should be a motivational speaker to show that with a time and effort mediocre painters can turn into great ones. I really like the robes of the heralds especially, they have a lot of depth but still look smooth. What do you have in mind basing wise for your HE? I think the bases in your DE really took them to the next level and am anxious to see what you do with the other elfs. Too bad you cant play, or you might win a GT

Jesse, funny enough, you took my idea with the minis you had already done. All of my bases are hopfully going to be paved stones. I already have 20 archers mounted on paved bases. most of the characters come on something resembling that. I will hack up some of the stone and add in some static grass. Now for the update. Here are the two heralds. As I mentioned earlier, I went for the photo negative look with them helping them to be distinct from one another. Next on the docket for Daemons will be a Lord of Change, I believe. Next for the high elves will be some archers as they look fairly easy to do.

What materials are you using for the paved stone?

Currently, greenstuff. I don't use enough of it and I don't want my supply to go bad, so that is what I have so far. I know there is other stuff out there, I just haven't bothered with it yet.

Excellent work on the heralds. Are you going to base them or is Blake?
