What paints did you use? Are you still liking the winsor and newton brushes?

The windsor newtons rock! For most of Blake's models I am using GW paints. He provided me with the red stuff, but I am using a bit of my reaper stuff as well. Kind of depends. They both work well as long as I water them down well enough, though the reaper stuff is much easier to water down.

Well, I have finally decided to get my butt back in gear and I am currently putting some paint on my High Elf minis. That said, I thought the best place to start would be with 3 mages I have out and ready. They are interesting enough to get me moving while not bogging me down with a lot of tedium. So, that said, my color scheme for this army is going to be white and red with flames and the phoenix emblem being a prevalent feature throughout the army. So, without further ado, the Mage Brigade.

Sweet, Dave! My only suggestion, paint the edge of the bases in a darker brown. It'll make nice clean lines that set off the grey stones.

You are right. That would add a bit more dimension to my bases. I think when this is done, it will probably be my best army to date....as long as I don't get frustrated halfway through.

They look great, Dave. I think all the models need to stand up out of the tray more. Put a layer of balsa wood down or something. Also, bring up the highlights on the banner. That will attract people's eye quite a bit and make for an impressive feature/

When you say that the models should stand up out of the tray, do you mean you think the tray border is too thick? If so, I agree. That is not the tray they will be in come tournament time. That is just what I have right now.
Also, what part of the banner needs highlights? It is white. Do you mean the emblem I put on? I would agree it probably needs a bit more work and there is a lot of white space behind it that could probably stand to be filled. I will brainstorm some more attention getting ideas.

Man those looks good. I hate that I am going to have to kill them this afternoon.

Yeah, highlight the phoenix. Some orange licks on the outermost/highest parts would look slick and complement the orange on the rider's cloaks' flames. I mean the bases seem to sit too low in the tray.

Andy, thanks. Just be prepared when all of your painted models are destroyed by my painted models alone.
Dave, I get what you are saying in both cases. I thought about making the highlights more pink to white on the emblem, but I guess I could do both pink/white and orange/yellow. I will play around a bit. As far as the trays go, I will probably make some new ones awhile down the road when everything is painted and magnetized. I really like the GW modular movement trays for this believe it or not. They are a bit more expensive, but look really nice when done up.
