I have been playing Patric's Empire for a while now(and I can't express my gratitude for him letting me use it), and I figured that it is about time I start making my own army. I'm not sure what army I will make, or if I even can. I have never modeled and never painted, so I would like anyone's and everyone's opinion on where and/or how I can learn to paint and model. Thanks in advance!

Generally the best place to start is with models.
In all seriousness, the best thing to do is pick an army you want to do, pick a color scheme, and start practicing. There are tons of really good places to check for mini painting tips. Heck you can even look up videos on how to do it on youtube. My advice is to figure out your army and your color scheme first. The rest should come over time.

I just picked an army and bought the paint starter set but eh most of them went to waste I would not advise buying the paint starter. Do what Dave says and see if you can picture a color theme you would enjoy to paint.

Reaper Miniatures has a painting club on Saturday at their location in south Denton. You may think about going there one Saturday afternoon. I did they helped me a lot. www.reapermini.com/TheAsylum

Ok thanks guys! I believe I've decided on beastmen, with a brown, forest green color theme. Once I have a few proxy games with them and make sure its what I want to play, I'll start finding some models that I can attempt to paint.

Make sure you get the newest army book as they are being released just now. But that sounds good. I think you will enjoy something different.

Browns and greens are among the easiest schemes to paint, good to learn on. When I started trying to actually learn to paint, I first read the GW book How to Paint Minis or something like that. It helped me learn the basics, see examples of what the terms meant, and start playing around with things. Then I bought some good brushes (winsor and newton #7), read more online and got busy on my wood elves.
Be prepared to be frustrated at times. I got really, really frustrated doing the leather on my marauder horsemen Sunday night. I tried a scheme that was WAY too yellow and bright for the horses. I tried to cover it up, and it just got messy. So I'm back to this drab, flat brown and not sure what to do next.
Start by learning to drybrush and do washes. It's a quick and painless method, and once you get better at it, you can work that looks fine for the tabletop. There's crappy drybrushing too, but it's something that really takes practice. I was painting a year before I started to get "good" at it.
You can start with basic colors. Grey, brown, green, red, blue, black, white, purple, yellow. For greys, browns, greens, and blues, you can buy a dark and light of each. You can mix with white and black to get colors too.
I add water to everything. Just a little if drybrushing, a good bit more if actually painting. Water is a painter's best friend.
And beastmen are cool. It'll be good to have a Beastmen player in the group

By the by, I was a beastman player, so I can offer some tips on painting should you decide to start them. Let me know. Maybe I can come up to A51 and help you out with a model or two.
