ok just making sure I have this correct. don't want to be seen as grasping when i play at the LGS!
the vindicare has the excitus rifle which has the special rule: sniper and is AP1.
under special ammo: the turbo penetrator has armor penetration of 4D6.
under sniper it says that the rifle also has the rending and pinning special rules
under rending it says that armor pentration rolls of a 6 get an addition d3 of pentration
so my questions: is the pentration of the turbo pentrator then 4d6 with any 6 adding d3 of extra pentration?
also on the damage table we get the +1 due to being AP1?

I think you may be right. When a strength x weapon with the sniper rule fires at a model with an armor value it counts as S3 with rending and pinning. So, I would agree with your assessment. He would roll to-hit and then when rolling to pen, he would count as S3 with 4D6 armor penetration with the possible of getting a single D3 extra if you roll a 6. I say single because I don't think you would get D3 for each 6, just one extra D3 if you roll a 6 at all. Then, it is an AP1 weapon so you would get the +1 on the damage chart.

This is one of many things in the grey knight book that needs faqing. There is no precedent on what to do with a rending weapon that rolls multiple d6 armor pen. Since there is no clear direction, I've been playing it with no extra d3 and I've never really had an issue with him failing to penetrate a vehicle.
But seriously, we could have a whole other thread dedicated to rules in the grey knight book that need an FAQ. WAAAAAAARD!

I agree. It seems like creating smooth rules integration is far down the list of items GW rules writers consider.

I think the middle ground of an extra D3 if any 6 shows up is the best way to play it.

I wouldn't be worried about a single additional D3. If someone tried to say that they got an extra D3 per 6, I would have a hard time.
