You and I are it. Warlordtakismo checks in rarely here. We could make tagloro and honorary bad guy since he's a WoC player.

Ok, after trying to put together what I thought was a sneaky way to maybe pull off a Bad Guy win, and the subsequent ivnestigation into a number of things in 8th Ed, I am even MORE convinced the initial SoC scenario is totally hopeless for the bad guys. Not only do war machines now hit a lot more troops more reliably, but their crews do not panic! Meaning I have to send troops to kill each and every crewmember of each and every war machine my opponent fields (or at least break them in combat).
As Hicks says in "Aliens"..."game over." A handful of war machines, a stank, big unit of unbreakable flagellants...sprinkle in a unit or two of pistoliers and outriders... and I am hosed. Each of those elements alone brings a special challenge, but together, in a scenario where they all need to be totally wiped out...not gonna happen.
While I like the idea of doing this, the scenarios need to be evaluated and tweaked for 8th to make them at least somewhat balanced. Maybe they get better from here...?

Meant to post this here: Close...but no cigar. At the end, he had a stank with only 4 wounds left and nothing else. Actually I had him down to this in turn 5, but then made the incredibly foolish decision to charge in with some troops (since he didnt dare generate steam points to fight back), but which kept my remaining hellcannon and death mage from more effectively attacking it. So I spent the next three rounds beating on it in vain, bouncing off the T10 or the 1+ AS. Sigh My army: lvl 4 slaanesh mage with carpet, diabolic splendor and spell familiar - did NOT get Ecstatic Seizures! Dooooooooh! lvl 2 death mage with Blood of Tz and Conjoined Homonculus BSB with doom totem 10 MoS maraduer cav with lt and axes 10 MoS maraduer cav with lt and axes 5 MoS maraduer cav with lt and flails 5 MoS maraduer cav with lt and flails 30 MoS Marauders with music and std (bunker for BSB) 12 MoT Warriors with shields and xtra HW 6 MoT knights with Bnr of Rage 2 hellcannons He had: Popemobile lvl 2 life wiz warrior priest BSB with 4+ ward 3 35+ man units of halberdiers stank 2 cannons 2 mortars 2 rocket batteries 2 engineers Game Summary: Death continues to mow down characters, as I was able to kill his BSB in the first turn using Caress of Laniph. Doom Totem + Hellcannon hits (which cause panic) ran two of the big halberd units off the board in the first turn! Fast cav just barely managed to collect all the war machines + engineers in time (throwing axes were worthless); thank goodness for vanguard move, as it allowed me to start jamming the works on turn 1, and then charge on turn 2. It turned into a rock/paper/scissors/lizard/spock game due to stank. I took Slaanesh on my mage lord for more certain access to hellshriek (which accounted for the last big block), but this denied me access to Purple Sun, which would have collected the Stank in short order. But since neither mage rolled the 6th spell (or a double), taking Death with the lord would not have mattered; STILL would not have gotten Purple Sun. It took a combo charge from a hellcannon and my (reincarnated) tz knights to finally put paid to the walter. All star awards go to the Hellcannons. They accounted for 2 huge units of halberds, 5 wounds on the stank, and half of the pope. Hellshriek is a huge game winner with diabolic splendor against moderate Ld armies. All units within 18" take panic check at -1 Ld? Yes, please. The new 8th rule that war machine crews cannot panic kept this combo from totally dominating, otherwise it would have cleaned off all the war machines with ease. Side note: This was my frist game using the Slaanesh lore, and it is a bit situational and can be frustrating when you just need to kill something, but it definitely has its uses. As I said, Hellshriek is a game winner, and Ecstatic Seizures will rip low to moderate T units apart, including embedded characters; there are no saves OF ANY KIND!

OK, our campaign began with an initial outpouring of demented Chaos worshippers from the north. The Empire and its allies have held up the opening foray for long enough to form lines of defense. The next battle is Hold the Line!
Every day that the hordes can be delayed is a day closer to the armies of Valten and Karl Franz arriving to relieve Middenheim.
Overview: The Storm players are attacking the Against the Storm players, trying to break their lines.
Armies: 2500 points.
Battlefield: Arrange the terrain in any mutually acceptable manner.
Deployment: After choosing table sides, the Against the Storm player places two markers on the battlefield. Markers must be more than three inches from a table edge and more than six inches apart. The markers should be about three inches square in size.
The Storm player deploys his army up to six inches on the table.
The Against the Storm player then deploys his army up to 24 inches on the table.
Who Goes First? The Against the Storm player goes first.
Length of Game: Six Turns.
Special Rules: Storm units may destroy objective markers. An objective marker is automatically destroyed if there is an unengaged Storm unit in contact with it at the end of any Close Combat phase. Storm units may declare charges against objective markers as if they were an enemy unit. Units in contact with only an objective marker do not count as being engaged in combat for the purposes of shooting, targeting spells, etc.
Victory Conditions: For the Against the Storm player, as normal. For the Storm player, victory points are only scored by destroying objective points. Each objective point is worth 1,000 points.

I assume we are using 7th Ed Victory Points conditions...?

So if someone puts flagellants, a stank, and a waltar around their objectives, we lose, right?

I think this one is actually easier, since we (the bad guys) have a way of scoring significant chunks of VPs the good guys cannot get via the markers. A few Purple Suns to clear the area?

I guess that somewhat balances out the crazy first round. If Storm players manage to get even a single marker, that will be a huge swing in their favor considering how much harder it is to collect VPs in 8th.

Hey guys,
We are slightly altering the dates of Turn Two and Turn Three to give everyone a chance to get their games in:
When Turn One starts, you will have two weeks to play your battle and record the results here (Sept 12 to Sept 25). At the end of the two weeks, whichever side won the most battles will determine the next scenario. Then we go on to a two week Turn Two (Sept 26 to Oct 10)and then a two week Turn Three (Oct 11 to Oct 24). The campaign ends with a huge multiplayer battle at Area 51 to decide the fate of the Empire.
